I have had a practice for the past five years that I have greatly enjoyed. Rather than setting New Year’s resolutions, each new year I have chosen a “word of the year.” This word has served to provide me a focus point throughout the year. In years past, I have used words such as discipline, strength, and consistency to guide me through the year, and my hope is that I will be able to see growth in each area as the year ends.
As I approach 2018 and I begin to consider my 2018 word of the year, I am drawn to the word “READ.”
I did not grow up a “reader.” In fact, I detested reading. It was not until graduate school that I began to come into a love of reading, and over the years my love of reading has grown and grown. However, because of my late arrival into the world of reading, I have not read so many of the “classics.” So, this year, I hope to change that!
So, my word is “READ” and this year I am going to try to do three things:
- Read more. (That I would simply read more books this year…)
- Read more often. (That I would read more consistently and regularly throughout my days and weeks…)
- Read more variety. (That I would read more types of genres this year… fiction, theology, biographies, leadership, etc.)
To help me in this effort, I came across a helpful challenge, called the 2018 Reading Challenge. Click on the button below to take a look.
If you are up to the challenge, I hope that you will join me! I have decided to begin the challenge with To Kill a Mockingbird… Can’t wait!
