Gospel Centered + Intentionally simple

Our mission is to glorify God

by growing in Christ,

growing together,

and going to our world.

vision of how we’ll get there…

GATHER

We believe that the church is called to gather together, as the gospel unites us. We gather both big and small to glorify our God, and to celebrate his Gospel.

SCATTER

We scatter to glorify God by serving and by sharing the gospel with our community, our city, and beyond. We believe that this is our natural response to the gospel, and our mission as the church.

MULTIPLY

We seek to multiply disciples, leaders, groups, and churches. Multiplication is essential to the mission of the church, and we will seek to multiply at all levels for the glory of God.

Our Values

Gospel Centered

At the center of everything that we do and everything in which we hope, is the Gospel. Jesus Christ came, lived the life we could not live, died the death that we deserved, and rose again giving us the victory that He won. Without this, we have nothing. But, because of this, we have everything!

Intentionally Simple

Our hope is to point all people to the gospel of Jesus Christ through simple, healthy, and intentional ministry. We seek to be focused, not distracted. Simple not scattered. Intentional not accidental. Because of this, we are committed to be intentionally simple for the glory of God so that we can be effective in Gospel ministry.

Our Beliefs

God

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.

The Bible

We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.

The Human Condition

We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus—Israel’s promised Messiah—was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.

The Work of Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.

The Church

We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.

Christian Living

We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.

Christ's Return

We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.

Response and Eternal Destiny

We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.

Our Network

We are affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA).  The EFCA is a movement that exists to glorify God by multiplying healthy churches among all people.  For more information, visit the EFCA website or view our expanded beliefs.

About Justin

I was born and raised in San Antonio.  My dad was a pastor and church planter, and from the earliest age I can remember I have grown up in the church. (and, when I say “in” the church, I mean literally “in” the church building)  By the grace of God, I came to know and follow Jesus at an early age, and I am so grateful for that. I am also grateful to have met my wife at an early age.  Candace and I were married when we were twenty years old, and I am grateful that God has brought us together early in life’s journey. We now have three boys and a one girl together. God used my love for music to serve the church.  I became a worship leader when I was fifteen, and was able to serve in several churches until eventually we moved to Fort Worth to accept a position as a worship pastor for a church in north Fort Worth. After serving in worship ministry for 6 years, I began to feel like God was leading me to begin to prepare myself to teach and pastor, and so I began studies at Midwestern Bible College in Kansas City, MO.  While completing my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity to help plant a new church in Kansas City. Those years taught me so much, and it was through that experience that God gave me a passion for church planting.  After seeing what God did through this church plant, I began to dream of what God could do in my own home city through church planting. From Kansas City, we moved to Dallas, TX to complete my studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. I began to believe more than ever that God was calling me to plant a church in north-central San Antonio, and so I continued to prepare.  Through all of those years of study, I had continued to serve the church as a worship pastor and I had the privilege of serving on some of the most incredible staffs and teams who have challenged me and shaped my ministry more than they even realized. In January 2014, God provided the opportunity for us to begin turning a dream to plant a church into a reality.  We moved back to San Antonio after nearly a decade, and we quickly began to see that God had already been preparing people to join the team.  A little over a year later, God had brought some incredible people together, and Stone Oak Bible Church began to take form. My dream for Stone Oak Bible Church is that we will never lose our passion for the gospel of Jesus, and for sharing that passion with our community.  For us, this means that we will be a church who continually equips and sends people out on gospel-centered mission in their own communities, and that we will continually plant churches who do the same.   Five Books that I Suggest:

  • “Mere Christianity” C.S. Lewis
  • “Taking God at His Word” Kevin DeYoung
  • “The Power of Habit” Charles Duhigg
  • “The Cost of Discipleship” Dietrich Bonhoeffer
  • “Morning and Evening” Charles Haden Spurgeon

About Craig

Let me start with this: I’m not a native Texan. If you are still reading then well done! I am born and raised in south-central Missouri. I grew up in the heart of the Ozark mountains, and miss that scenery. I have grown up in the Church. From my first Sunday on this Earth, my parents had me in Church. It was what I have always known as normal. I am grateful for this upbringing now. Because I grew up within the Church I had some great teachers throughout my life that have shown me the great wonders of God. At the age of 5; somehow, someway, God gripped my heart. My theology wasn’t deep, but I came to understand that there was a God and He loved me. Looking at a 5 year old now, I have no idea how they could possibly understand what salvation means, but God chose at that point in my life to make himself known. After a period of uncertainty, and indecisiveness, God revealed himself to me again, and placed a passion and desire within my heart of making the Gospel known. It was during this time I sought out some wise council, and decided to pursue my education. This brought me to Kansas City. While in Kansas City I was able to persuade a beautiful girl from back home to marry me. Together we joined a Church plant in Kansas City, and fell in love with the newness and freshness of it. After Kansas City, I felt God guiding me to continue my education. After looking at some different schools I eventually settled on Dallas Theological Seminary. We moved as a family in the heat of the summer; not the best time to move to Texas by the way. After two years of devoting myself to my studies, and sweating every minute, I graduated with a Masters degree in Christian Education. My plan was then to apply for jobs as an Associate Pastor, or Discipleship Pastor. My hope was to move back towards Missouri. My wife, Wendi, and I had our first child, Grayson, and the grandparents really wanted us closer as well. After a year and a half of applying, and getting rejected, and applying some more, and getting rejected some more, and applying, and applying… Things didn’t look to good for me. I didn’t understand what God’s plan was. I felt like I had done my part, and God was now supposed to do His. He was supposed to give me this fabulous job, and it just wasn’t happening. I received a call one day from Justin. He told me about the possibility of planting a Church in San Antonio, TX. San Antonio? Isn’t that Mexico? Further away from Missouri and family? I said “No Thanks!” to Justin without actually saying those words. The next day a job opened up at a local Christian school in San Antonio where I would teach my favorite book of the Bible (Acts), and my favorite subject (Church History). Wendi and I moved to San Antonio in June of 2012 (once again, don’t move in Texas during the summer!). We soon after moving here fell in love with this city and it’s people. We have since added one to our family when our daughter Charlie was born in 2014. My dream and hopes for Stone Oak Bible are to be a Church that is constantly striving after Christ. I want to be a people who are constantly growing more like Him, and sharing this love and passion of Christ with those who are far off. My love within the Church is the process of discipleship through the many different Community Groups.

Three books I suggest:

  • “The Deliberate Church” by Mark Dever
  • “The Christian Ministry” by Charles Bridges
  • “Church History in Plain Language”  by Bruce Shelley

About Luis

One of the many reasons I am grateful to God is for giving me the opportunity to be born and raised on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Although I currently live 2,000 miles away from the island and from many people I love, I’ve found in South Texas a home, a church family, and friends that I have come to love.

Despite growing up in a Christian household, it wasn’t until I got to college when God placed the necessary faith to follow Jesus and began my journey of faith as His disciple. During that time, I also met the love of my life, Venessa, with whom for the last twenty-five years, I’ve shared every aspect of my life. She and my two boys are one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. Before coming to San Antonio, I served as a student pastor for four years. Later, I was involved in planting a church that today is a thriving disciple-making church.

After all these years, I’ve discovered a genuine passion for the study and teaching of the Word of God and a renewed desire to share Jesus as the only way to experience a full and abundant life. Regardless of my mistakes along the way, God’s grace has allowed me to deeply experience His abundant life not only in my life, but also in the lives of my family and friends.

I’m currently in the process of completing a Master in Theological Studies at Shepherds Theological Seminary in Cary, North Carolina.

There are two books that I enjoy reading every year, “Agape Leadership: Lessons in Spiritual Leadership from the Life of R.C. Chapman” by Alexander Strauch and Robert Peterson, and “The Unquenchable Flame” by Michael Reeves.

About Kaitlyn

I am a native Texan, born and raised in Arlington, TX, where I lived in the same house for 18 years until I moved away to college.  I grew up in the Nazarene church and my grandfather was a Nazarene evangelist. As my dad says, he knew from the moment I was born that I was going to be a singer, and he was right.  My mom got me involved in singing in the church from the very beginning.  From the age of 4 I was singing on stage in church and it was my favorite thing to do. I was involved in music throughout my schooling and ultimately chose to attend Texas Woman’s University where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy.  I currently work in hospice care as a music therapist and I am blessed to be able to walk this journey with my patients and their families as they face the hardest moments of their life.  I fully believe in the power of music and I get to see it work every day. My husband, Randy, and I have known each other since we were 13 years old.  We became high school sweethearts at the age of 15 and have been together ever since.  Randy and I have served in the worship ministry since we were teenagers, staring the worship band and ministry for our youth group in Arlington, TX.  We both have a love for music and I’m so grateful that we have always been able to serve the church together in this way. We got married in February of 2012 when we were only 20 years old while Randy was still serving in the U.S. Navy. Before moving to San Antonio, we lived in Austin where I led worship for a church and started a worship ministry for their youth group as well.  Once we moved to San Antonio, it took us a while to find the right church home for us, but when we found Stone Oak Bible Church, we knew it was where we needed to be. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to serve Stone Oak Bible through worship. Randy and I have two kids, and we couldn’t be more excited! Through all trials and tough times Psalms 13:5-6 stays in my mind: 5“But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.  6 I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.”

About Ross

I was born and raised in Boerne, TX, and grew up in a believing household. I attend Texas A&M University (Whoop!! I could talk your ear off for hours about the upcoming football season), where I majored in Elementary Education. I had no plans to enter ministry, but as I was getting my degree, I got involved in a local church, got into leadership, and went on several mission trips. I feel more deeply in love with God, and I knew that the best way to serve God, love kids, and love their families was to go into ministry myself! Ministry has been a huge blessing. I met my wife at Grace Bible Church in College Station (where she was also on staff) and attended Dallas Theological Seminary for my seminary degree. After completing my degree, I came on staff with Stone Oak Bible Church and moved to San Antonio in June of 2021. I believe that families are what keep the church strong, show kids who God is, and are impactful in the world at large for the Gospel. Join us in building stronger families for the Gospel!
